Every once in a while I’ll get a question about cute couple getaways around the city. Not too long ago I had the opportunity to explore Canada but didn’t have my life together a.k.a. my passport so that I could go but I did enjoy my time at Niagara Falls. Canada’s capital city offers all sorts of things to do for locals and visitors alike.

The attraction to visit Canada and even live there is certainly on the rise. Whether you recently purchased one of the homes for sale in Ottawa and are looking for a fun place to enjoy a date night or you plan to visit with your special someone,  I have a quick list of cool destinations that are scenic and for the lovebirds out there, super romantic.

Skate the Rideau Canal

The Rideau Canal is a 126-mile-long waterway that links Ottawa to Kingston. In the winter, 4.8 miles of it is transformed into the world’s naturally longest frozen skating rink, equivalent to 90 Olympic-size skating rinks, as noted by the Guinness Book of World Records. Glide across it arm-in-arm, picking up treats at the snack stands along the way like hot chocolate and beaver tails (pastries topped with sugar and cinnamon). Escape the crowds and enjoy the more secluded frozen Patterson Creek too, an offshoot of the canal.

Attend a Wine and Cooking Show

The Diamond Cooking Show takes dinner out to a whole new level. It’s a total experience, where guests get to watch two pro chefs put together a three-course meal with local ingredients while learning cooking methods and getting helpful tips such as how to make delicious dishes the healthiest way possible. Volunteers are encouraged to participate but you don’t have to do any of the work unless you want to – and there’s no mess to clean up afterwards either.

A Thrilling Escape

If you two enjoy heart-pounding experiences and want to take part in a completely different kind of night out, consider going to an escape room. Escape Manor offers the thrill of the hunt, the chance to solve problems together and get an adrenaline rush, not to mention plenty of laughter. It’s a great way to bond as you explore rooms with various themes searching for clues while trying to beat the clock. It sure to give you plenty to talk about, reducing the chances of that awkward quiet ride home while providing a great conversation starter later. An escape room can be both a good icebreaker on a first date or an opportunity to improve communication among couples who’ve been together for years.

A Stroll Through Nature

During the more pleasant months of the year, take advantage of the wealth of parks and other green spaces that offer the opportunity for a stroll through nature in Ottawa and throughout the surrounding area. Walk along the Ottawa River Parkway enjoying the picturesque shoreline or head to the Gatineau Hills, filled with miles of scenic trails.

Delve into Culture

As the capital of Canada, there’s a museum for just about everyonae here. Check out the National Gallery of Canada, a top pick with its with its impressive collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs with a focus on Canadian art along with some notable European and American artists too. Right behind it is Nepean Point, which provides a magnificent view of the city, and a great place to steal a kiss. Other options include the Museum of Nature, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, among a long list of others.

Pretty cool options right?! Have a hidden gem hang out you love up North? Let me know in the comments! Y’all stay cool and I’ll see you around the city soon!
